Interceptive Orthodontics in the Pre-Adolescent: A case series

The first part of the course will review interceptive treatment options in growing patients with vertical, transverse, antero-posterior, and/or arch-length discrepancies. Learning points will include interceptive treatment options, diagnostic features, and treatment timing.

The second part of the course will discuss some unexpected challenges and diagnostic dilemmas you may come across in orthodontic practice, as well as the need for active involvement in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. Learning points will include identifying common pitfalls and when to refer.

About Dr. Codey Pilgrim
DDs, Orthodontist
Dr. Pilgrim is a board-certified orthodontist and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists
of Canada. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Memorial University of
Newfoundland and completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at Dalhousie University in
Halifax, NS. After graduation, he pursued a residency in pediatric dentistry at The Hospital for
Sick Children through the University of Toronto. From there he moved on to the University of
Alberta to complete a Master of Science in Medical Sciences, Orthodontics. He is thrilled to be
back in his home province of Newfoundland as the owner/operator of Anchor Orthodontics.
During his specialty training, Dr. Pilgrim conducted ground-breaking research on
communication between orthodontic specialists and their patients’ parents and is very
passionate about making sure families feel comfortable, informed, and an equal part of shared
decision-making. He is dedicated to continued learning and growth as a professional and is
currently working towards publication of his research to help inform patient-provider
communication guidelines. He serves on the selection committee for Smiles 4 Canada, an
organization that helps provide orthodontic care to families in need, as well as the New and
Younger Members Committee with the CAO.
Dr. Pilgrim is a proud, born and bred Newfoundlander who calls St. John’s home! He is
very happy to be here with his wife, Beth, his son, Finley, and another baby boy on the way! His
personal interests include hockey (he’s an ever-suffering Maple Leafs fan), road trips, skiing,
hiking, and family time.
